Research topics: learning in detention, community assistance and services to prisoners

Leen Vandevelde started in January 2022 as a PhD-researcher at the department of Educational Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Her master thesis focused on the needs, motives and barriers for education among female prisoners in Flemish prisons. In her PhD research, she examines the needs for re-integration and reduction of recidivism among incarcerated persons. This research is part of the BRuG-research (needs for re-integration and reduction of recidivsm among prisoners), which is financed by the department of Public Health, Welfare and Family of the Flemish Government.
